State Spirit Competition tough on Raton Teams
It was a long tough meet in Rio Rancho at the Santa Ana Star Center this last weekend for the Raton spirit teams.
As dance coach Kelly Gabrielle puts it class 3A is one of the toughest to compete in than any other in the state. This meet was no exception for the girls. Friday night the cheer team performed an almost flawless routine and the dance team had a great performance as well. The tough part for the Tiger Cats is that they followed the toughest team in class 3A, Hope Christain who would later win the dance competition. Hope's performance was a routine with a pirates theme and one that brought wow comments afterwards.
Whether it affected the girls is hard to tell but it was tough to follow that up, yet the girls did a great job and the Raton fans gave them the appreciation they deserved for a job well done.
Saturday night was again stiff competition yet Raton did what they needed to with the Tiger Cats winning a certificate for a best in category in the Jazz performance as did the Raton cheer team for Friday night's performance which included crowd participation, Go Raton Fans!! Cheer coach Linda Ortiz said that Raton has one of the best crowd followings and it showed Friday night as the crowd helped Raton win the best in category for the night. By far there were more Raton fans there than even the home teams of Rio Rancho and Albuquerque. They were the loudest too!!
By the time the competition ended late Saturday night Raton cheer came home with a second place trophywith Dance bringing home a certificate for Best in Category for Jazz. Hope Christian won both the Cheer and Dance competition.
