The Lady Tigers took a quick lead Tuesday evening in Trinidad and lead 8-2. The sleepy Lady Miners, after a time out, awoke and made that pick ring as they put the pressure on and created turnover after turnover.
By the time the first quarter was over a stunned Lady Tiger team was looking at a nine point deficit (21-12). As the second quarter moved on the score continued to widen with Trinidad's full court press working the turnovers and keeping the Lady Tigers away from the basket. By halftime Raton was licking their wounds with a 42-23 score on the board.
As the second half got under way the Lady Miners pulled back some on the press and played a steady fast paced game that allowed them to slowly widen the score. The Lady Tigers were also having trouble controlling the fouls with a couple of questionable calls that sent the Lady Miners to the charity stripe.
That trend continued into the fourth quarter and fortunately for Raton Trinidad was colder than hot at the line. The Lady Miners only hit 10 of 20 free throws in the second half.
As the buzzer sounded the Lady Tigers were looking at their second loss of the season with a 67-38 score. The Lady Tigers will host the Lady Tigers from La Junta on Saturday January 14 at 5:00 p.m.
