While it
was a slow start for the JV boys it was a close fast paced game for the varsity
team as the Tigers never lead the West Las Vegas Dons by more than eight points
during the first district game in Raton Thursday night.
The JV team
started out in the hole as the Dons put on a press that the JV team struggled
with. It looked grim for the JV until the second quarter when things turned
around and wow it was a 31-31 game at half time.
Third
quarter action however looked like a repeat of the first quarter and were down
20 points. The JV however battled on and ended the game with a loss 75-61.
Raton
varsity team took an early lead in the game and managed to hold on to it for
most of the game. The Dons tied the game in the third and briefly led but were
unable to maintain the lead. The game remained close, yet the free throw line
was good to the Tigers as they went 8 of 16 attempts. The Dons had a slightly
better percentage at the line only did 5 of 8 free throws.
Late in the
fourth the Dons came within two yet the Tigers managed to break it out with a
couple of quick shots and by the buzzer lead the game 57-51. The final point
spread was the result of a couple of free throws too.
The Tigers
host Taos Saturday in the Jungle.
