Spirit Teams to participate in state competition
Go Ladies!!!
The Tiger Cats Dance team and the RHS Cheer Squad will travel to Rio
Rancho this weekend for the state spirit competition to be held at the
Santa Ana Star Center.
As dance coach Kelly Gabrielle put it 3A competition is one of the most
competitive in the state. For 2 minutes and 15 seconds these ladies
compete for a state title, a state trophy before a panel of judges.
Cheer coach Linda Ortiz stated that these girls had started preparing
for this routine in June of last year. Hours and hours of practice
practice practice go into the preparation for two 2 1/4 minutes of cheer
or dance routines.
The girls will participate Friday and Saturday evening and one of the
things the teams are judged on is crowd participation which Ortiz eluded
to, she told the crowd that Raton has one of the best crowd followings
at state.
The Raton teams have performed quite well at state despite having to
compete against private schools coming home with third and second place
wins. This year the girls have done quite well at the pre state
competitions with both teams coming home with first or second place
finishes. Could this be the year Raton sees a couple of state titles??
