Its Rodeo Time Again

The Jim Young Arena was the happening place Friday night as the Rocky Mountain Rodeo Company livestock along with Dwayne Richert, rodeo clown extraordinaire, made for a great rodeo show.

The arena grand stands were alive with rodeo fans, young and old a like who packed in to see the broncs and bulls. Even the tie down roping was exciting this year as the crowd saw two cowboys put together 8.9 seconds runs.

The arena, however wasn't as friendly to the bronc and bull riders as only three bull riders rode to the buzzer and even less on the broncs. Mouse Hampton rode a bull for 80 points and while Dylan Henson related to Raton's Clint Henson rode for 76 points on a saddle bronc. Of note here's hoping that Kyle Schlotterbeck is doing ok as he was transported to Miners Colfax Medical Center after his bull ride.

In the steer wrestling Glen Clark laid out his steer in 4.5 seconds. The team of Levi Lewis and Brent Tyson stretched out their steer in a quick 5.6 seconds. And the ladies turned and burned the barrels with three ladies, Caren Lamb (16.15), Carol Chesher (16.05) and Kelly Schnaufer (16.92) scoring times in the 16 second time frame.

Cowboys Rally in the Ninth for Win

It was all Osos for the first eight innings of the ball game Thursday night in Raton as the Osos pulled out a a 13-11 lead.

Four Osos pitchers later the Cowboys would see their first lead of the game as a 7-run rally put them over the top. In the bottom of the ninth Ryan Barban made it on base by a walk and was the only Osos to see a base as the game came to an end.

Early in the game the Osos looked like a team that had played together the throws were made and the ball was caught. Cowboys were wrangled down in the pickle and double plays were perfected. Had AJ Doyle not bobbled the ball at second the Osos could have had their first triple play. Doyle did hang on to the ball and it wasn't dropped yet the call was safe.

Going into the fifth inning the Osos were up by six when the Cowboys from Alpine pushed foru runs across the plate. Yet the Osos retaliated with three. The Cowboys managed to ink out four more runs, two each in the sixth and seventh closing the lead to only three going into the ninth.

Roswell Invades Raton to Continue Winning Ways

Raton took an early lead but just couldn't hang on to it as the Invaders kept on striking wood with base hits that brought the runners on around.

Roswell kept pounding the ball not deep but simply in and through the holes in the Osos defense.

Raton didn't help themselves either as a couple of wild throws allowed Roswell runners to advance. On the other side of the ball some of Raton's heavy hitters were stifled at the plate. The players were unable to hit solid balls out of the park tonight yet when contact was made several fell into Invader gloves for the out.

Raton will host Taos Tuesday night for another northern division game. This will be the first time these two teams have met this season.
