Lady Tigers struggle with WLV

The Lady
Tigers hosted the Lady Dons Saturday night in Tiger Gym for another tough
district game.
The JV
girls fell behind early and just never could come back like they have in the
past. When the buzzer finally sounded the final score was WLV 52-Tigers 28.
The varsity
game didn’t start out much better other than WLV didn’t score as much in the
first quarter as their JV did. Raton struggled and it seemed they couldn’t even
buy a basket ending the first quarter down 15-2. Haley Gansz was responsible
for the two Raton points from the free throw line yet she struggled there as
well making 2-6 free throws.
The second
quarter was better in that Raton scored 12 to WLV nine points going to the
locker room down by 10 24-14.
Third
quarter action saw Raton score 20 points to WLV 17 with Raton spreading out the
scoring. Raton continued to tighten the spread and by the end of the third were
within seven at 41-34.
Raton’s
fourth quarter kept battling and by the 2-minute mark had closed to within
four. It just wasn’t in the cards on Saturday night as WLV managed to hit a
couple of baskets to keep out in front. When the clock ticked to zero it was
WLV 53-47.
Raton will
host Taos on Valentine’s Day for another district match-up.
